2012 Programmes and Curriculum

Our enrichment curriculum caters to children between the ages of two and
17. Our entire curriculum consists of four programmes – Baby Champ, Little
Champ, Junior Champ and Magnificent Champ. These programmes link from
one to another as we bring our students on a journey to appreciate literature and
English books of various genres, learn life skills and values, acquire knowledge
of the present and past events, just to name a few.

Our focus is on building a solid foundation in English skills - reading, writing,
listening and speaking so that children will appreciate the language and be
able to use it with a purpose, confidence and enjoyment.

For students who need to build-up their foundation in English, we encourage
them to attend FOCUS English which will be held twice weekly focusing on
grammar and writing.

For 2012, we will be introducing thematic lessons stressing more on funbased
activities including Speech & Drama as well as Music & Movement
to increase their awareness in the following areas:

- Pronunciation and diction
- Articulation
- The connection between body gestures and speech
- The importance of respecting others while interacting
- Ability in using music as a tool to better express oneself
- View situations from various perspectives and form an opinion on them

The Selfish Crocodile

What’s happening in Theatre for Kids this month? Join us to watch The Selfish
Crocodile organised by Gardner & Wife Theatre at PJ Live Arts in Jaya
One. The show is currently on-going until 22 October 2011.

The Selfish Crocodile is based on the best-selling children’s book by Faustin
Charles and Michael Terry.

KIDZ Theatre

Want to do something fun and educational with your little one? Bring him or her to the theatre.

A study conducted by the Department of Education and Children’s Services in South Australia has found that going to the theatre can improve children’s literacy and social skills.

Windmill Performing Arts project manager Julie Orchard, who is a seconded Department of Education and Children’s Services teacher, said children’s oral and written language improved significantly during the project.

“Children learnt to think critically about what they saw and articulate their
ideas and feelings,” Ms Orchard said. “Children as young as 10 were using words like ‘curious’, ‘inquisitive’ and ‘amused’ to describe their theatre experience.”

Ms Orchard said improved social skills were an added benefit of going to the theatre.
